Rise of the Resistance to get a New Virtual Queue System When Hollywood Studios Reopens | No More Boarding Groups

With the reopening of the parks over in Disney World starting with Animal and Magic Kingdom on July 11th, the topic of how Disney’s newest Star Wars attraction was going to operate with the reduced crowd levels was still unanswered until today. It was announced today on Disney Parks Blog that when Hollywood Studios reopens it’s gates for guests on July 15th the old Boarding Pass system for the Rise of the Resistance attraction would not be returning. Instead Disney will be implementing a new virtual queue system in it’s place.

Gone are the days of having to wake up at the break of dawn to rush over to Hollywood Studios to get a ride time. Now with the new system there will be three different times throughout the day where guests can go on the MyDisneyExperience app and attempt to get a spot in the virtual line for the attraction. These times when passes are available are 10am, 1pm, and 4pm. During these times a small number of line spots will become available and it is first come first serve. When the spots are gone for that time period, you must wait for the next reservation period, or join a back up group if they are able to get through the initial line of riders. If you do not get a spot following the 4pm reservation period you unfortunately will be unable to ride the attraction that day. Also it can be noted that getting a virtual queue spot does not guarantee that you will be able to experience the attraction.

We expect the exact same queue system to be put in place when Disneyland eventually reopens. Also we believe this is a step in the right direction for the future of Disney attractions as with the on going global pandemic virtual queues are being more and more common of a thing in theme parks. As that allows you to stay distant from other guests and still be waiting for your turn to ride. Hopefully if the new system is a success we might see this implemented for more popular E-ticket attractions across the resort like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train in the Magic Kingdom. But, we will see how the new system works when Hollywood Studios reopens next week.
